According to drg. Sri Angky who was met on Friday (9/11), there are four things that must be considered in the use of mouthwash. Among others are:
1. Right step
As mentioned above, just brushing your teeth is not enough to remove bacteria that stick to the surface of your gums or teeth. Therefore, rinsing is needed, aka gargling after a toothbrush so that the remnants of germs that still stick on the surface of the teeth and gums can be cleaned thoroughly.
2. Right way
Use mouthwash according to the dosage, so that it is not overused. The use of excessive mouthwash will cause an overdose that has a negative impact on your body. Drg. Sri Angky said that the use of mouthwash more than the recommended dosage would cause dry mouth and trigger canker sores.
"Overdose (mouthwash) can vary, depending on our body. There are those that immediately become dry (mouth), so canker sores, there are also more susceptible to infection. Eating can also be sick, "said drg. Sri Angky who also serves as Chair of the Indonesian Dentist College (KDGI).
Even the use of excessive mouthwash can cause bacterial resistance. Yes, just like antibiotics, the use of excessive mouthwash can actually make bacteria in the mouth become resistant (immune to drugs). Bacterial resistance makes the bacteria continue to grow and multiply in the mouth.
Ideally, use as much as 20 ml mouthwash. Then rinse the right, left, then look up (but not swallowed) for at least 30 seconds. After that remove the mouthwash liquid from the mouth.
3. On time
Some people might assume that the more frequent gargling using mouthwash, the better the benefits will be obtained. However, this assumption is in fact wrong.
In fact, gargling can protect the mouth area for 12 hours, so to get maximum results and a clean mouth, you should gargle regularly twice a day after brushing your teeth.
